MTN Group has shared a major update on its Ambition 2030 strategy. The company is focusing on building the digital backbone of the continent through new infrastructure.

MTN will build AI-enabled data centres in South Africa and Nigeria. These facilities will help Africa meet the rising global demand for AI and cloud services.

Key updates:
✴️ New Data Centres: South Africa and Nigeria are the priority locations for these new AI-ready hubs.

✴️ Financial Growth: Bayobab, MTN’s infrastructure branch, saw a 38.8% increase in earnings (EBITDA) in 2025.

✴️ Better Connectivity: The @2Africa West subsea cable is now active, providing high-speed internet along the coast.

✴️ Expansion: MTN plans to buy the African operations of IHS Holdings to become the largest digital infrastructure provider on the continent.

Other global companies, such as Microsoft, are also investing billions in African data centres. This shows a clear trend towards better high-speed connectivity and data storage in the region. MTN will share more details during its Capital Markets Day in June 2026.
